Fro-Hawk Update!

I was not feeling the earlier hair do right.  So you know I wet my hair and decided to see what it would look like.  I added Garnier leave in conditioner sleek-n-shine to slip, a quarter size amount of Garnier curly gel and a dime size of the Garnier Putty.  Ok here's the pics!

Wet from the top/side!
Wet from the back.
Wet from the front.
All dry in the back the ringlets are defined and me likey!

The top is longer and the curls have become waves.
I guess I'll figure it out one of these days.

Drink and be Merry!

One of my favorite places to window shop and sometimes buy is woot.com.  Well fellow wine drinkers they have a site called wine.woot.com and here is today's special.  I need to take a wine class so I'll know what wine goes with what meat or dessert.

Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry have broken up after four years together, according to multiple reports.

The Oscar winner and the Canadian model are reportedly in negotiations to work out a custody agreement regarding their 2-year-old daughter Nahla, TMZ.com reports.

Berry, 43, and Aubrey, 34, met at a Versace store opening in Manhattan in February 2006. Their daughter was born two years later.

In February 2009, Berry told Essence magazine about motherhood, "I'm complete. I have more to offer my craft because [my daughter] makes me indelibly better every day." That same month, Aubry told PEOPLE that Nahla "needs a sibling. I think it's important."

Berry’s rep couldn’t be reached for comment.

I had high hopes for this one!  They made such a beautiful family.  I hope this isn't the 'Berry curse' where she is supposedly crazy.  IDK  I just wonder why she has such a hard time keeping a relationship.

Natural Hair Rules

Last night I had this great idea that I wanted a Fro-Hawk.  So I asked my daughter to braid up the sides for me.  She did and she two strand twisted my hair and then pin curled them up over night so they wouldn't come loose.  I tied my hair down and when I got up this morning I was surprised that I didn't have a head ache.  I have pictures y'all!

Ok this is me straight after face wash, teethed brushed and doo ragged up.  I was still sleepy.

This is my side braided up tightly and you can see the pin curled two strand twists.  I removed all the pins to get ready to unravel this and see how it turned out!

This is the untwisting of the pin curls and the twists.  As you can see the top of my head the hair is finer.  It lacks curl definition it's just wavy.  Which is why I didn't just wet and go.  I thought the two strand twist might give me some volume.

I added some shine before I pulled everything apart.

So this is the back.  I'm not loving it so far.  It makes my hair seem frizzier then usual.  The twists don't look like they work for someone with fine hair.  I've watched many videos on you-tube but most of the ladies have had thicker textured hair.  I will try this look again but with a dry two strand and see how that holds up.

Well here is the final look.  I beat my face and puffed it up.  Again the front is long and a totally different texture then the back and you can clearly see it here.  It's thinner and fluffier where as the back is denser and the curl is more defined.

Hope you enjoyed my experiment.  I just wanted to try something new.  I kinda like it now that it's all done.  I will probably just wet and air dry my hair the next time because the two strand twists really lack the curl definition that I like.  Maybe when it gets much longer it will look better.  We'll see!

Big thanks to my daughter for hooking mommy up!  Love you!

Conversations with my Daughter

I just had a good conversation with my daughter about one of her friends.  Her friend just became "best friends"  with a attention seeking, needy, drama queen (her words) they both go to school with.  My daughter is concerned that her friend is getting all caught up in this girls drama filled life.  She has tried talking to her friend and telling her to leave the drama girl alone but to no avail.

As Be Be's mama I told her "You said what you had to say now leave it alone.  Some people need to learn the hard way."  Like me, my child don't do the drama.  She's sad about losing a friend over this girl but she done told her friend how she felt about drama girl and well it's up to her to decide who she wants to hang around.

Teen Drama!  I do love that my baby can talk to me about it!

Would You?

If your 16 yr old comes to you asking for Botox injections for her "frown lines" would you let her get it?

If your 16 yr old  comes to you for breast implants would you let her get them?

I'm just wondering why some parents feel the need to do this for their daughters.  At 16 your body is still growing and changing.  Personally I would cuss my child out but then again she wouldn't ask.

iLove

I love that I have a PARTNER a real life partner.  Not the man that says do what say or the man than refuses to take the lead but a partner.  I love my husband like crazy.  Yesterday while he was off he spend his time on-line with me helping me look for a job.  He knows I am getting very frustrated with the process of looking for a job.  The e-mailing and filling out all these long ass applications.  My baby even filled out one for me.  He is being very supportive during this time.

HE.IS.EVERY.SINGLE.THING.

Yup I stole it!

Parenting 1.0.What?

Parents behaving badly!  I'm sitting here watching the Wendy Williams Show 'HOW YOU DOING' and she is talking about the Lohans parental skills or lack there of.

Well that got me to thinking about my kids.  I always get compliments on how well mannered my girls are and how helpful they are.  I always find that a little funny because this is how I think all kids should be.  Right?  Well it looks like that is not the case.  BeBe, my oldest, has a few girlfriends that I am always mothering.  Telling them what is acceptable or not.  Luckily the parents don't mind cause I treat them like my own.  If I see them on Face book late at night I will tell them to get their but off the computer.

So as a mother of a 16yr old girl I am feeling the need to have a meeting with her and her besties.  I really see a short fall of communication, not with THEIR parents but just in general with the adults in their lives.  The teachers, councilors and other parents are not talking to them about what they should be doing and how they should be acting as young ladies.  I know I am forever checking e-mails and text messages.  I call the schools and talk to the teachers of all my girls.  They know mommy is involved in what they have going on.  I am there for after school practices, the games and concerts.  I know that some parents may not have the time to do it.  Some of my daughters friends parents don't which is why I'm there rooting them on and taking pictures for their moms and dads.  It is so true it takes a village.  Hey when I'm not able to go for whatever reason you better believe I'm getting a e-mail with pictures in my inbox or on my cell phone.  I love that I have created a network around my kids.  Big shout out to Kim, Norman, Clinton and Deborah!!!

This is what I am proposing to do during the summertime and my daughter is all for it.  I will gather up all of my daughters good friends and take them for a day of talking, learning, eating and fun.  I want to talk to them about boys, sex, self control, self love, school, responsibility, personal finance ..... yes all of these things.  I talk to my daughter bout this kind of stuff all the time and when she talks to her friends they usually have little or no idea what she's talking about.  All of these young ladies will be graduating from school in 2012 and I fear they will not be prepared for the real world.  I know I wasn't.  I didn't know what options I had.  I just want better for my girls.  ALL my girls.

Spa Me!

These last few blogs have been about me pampering myself.  As women who might be mothers, work outside the home and wives I think it is especially important that we have some ME TIME.  Time to relax and recharge.  I like to have mini spa days.  I give myself head to toe treatment.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE body scrubs.  I have been know to make my own but I still purchase them too.  I try to get scrubs that are all natural.  I do not like the scrubs with mineral oils because they clog the pores.  I was in Wally yesterday and I found THIS

A fabu salt body scrub from Alba the Hawaiian scent which smells like heaven.  It has sea salt, sunflower oil, grapefruit peel oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, kukui nut, macadamia nut nut, avacado oils, vitamin E and other oils.  When I say I am in love with this product I can't stop smelling and touching myself.  Haha  Neither can my hubby.
Now after the salt scrub you have to moisturize the skin.  So when I tell you this smells good enough to eat please believe me.  I got this from Wally too and now I feel the need to go back and stock up.  I absolutely love this stuff.

Shea Body Butter by Tree Hut Brazilian Nut scent is ALL.THAT!  Both products are certified "all natural" and both are made in the U.S.A.

So SPA YOURSELVES ladies.  You deserve it.  I know I did.  =)

Got my toes dun up and my finger nails matching

I am all about saving money these days and .... well you all know why.  So I got my eyebrows waxed yesterday.  I know that costs money but I just wasn't doing a good job of it myself.  While there the lady was trying to talk me into a manicure and pedicure.  I looked down and well my toes/feet could use it.  Not to mention my nails or lack of nails could use some sprucing up.  Now I know I can do this at home easily.  I have everything I need.  So today that's what I'll do!  I'm not going to pay $35 for something I can do for free.  I surely have my way of doing it but below are some steps so you can do it at home too!

1) When starting a home manicure, remove any old polish from the nail bed. After the polish is removed, clip the nails straight across, slightly above the skin. Don’t cut the nails into points or try and shape them with cutters, it will only make them more prone to breakage.

2) Next, file nails straight across, rounding slightly on the corners. The correct term for this shape used in all the salons is called ’squoval’, square on the top, corners rounded like ovals. File from the outside to the center of the nail to prevent tearing and grinding away at the nail.

3) After filing, apply cuticle remover on the cuticles, and then soak fingers in warm soapy water for a few minutes. Avoid letting them soak long because if the nail is too saturated, it can make the nail soft, making it harder to apply polish. If nails are yellow or stained from constant use of polish, add a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide (I do this) or lemon juice to the water.

4) When the nails are done soaking, use an orangewood stick wrapped in cotton to gently push back cuticles from the nails. With cuticle nippers, trim hangnails and avoid cutting the cuticle to prevent infection. Massage hands with a hand or body scrub (I use this), and then rinse and apply hand cream (I used a body butter). Add cuticle oil to the cuticles and massage to allow the oil to soak in. After moisturizing, clean the nails of oil by using a cotton ball with polish remover to prepare nails for paint.

5) Painting the nails. Allow a few minutes to pass since removing oil from the nails so the remover has time to evaporate. Apply a base coat to all nails, starting with the pinkie finger to prevent smudges while painting. After letting the base coat dry, apply the first coat of color polish. For an even amount of polish on each nail, use three strokes of the brush, the first one down the center and then one on each side from the bottom of the nail up to the top.

6) After the first coat is dry, the final step to the manicure is applying a second coat. By painting to the tip of the nail and slightly over, it can prolong the life of the manicure and prevent chipping. Use a small brush with remover to clean up any spots where the polish got onto the skin. Apply a clear topcoat and allow nails to dry.
